Flower Pumpkin

We LOVE October in our house! Halloween movies, decoration bats flying out of the fireplace, sweet treats everywhere. Plus the weather has cooled off enough for there to be fewer bugs but it’s still warm enough for our flowers to be blooming. That’s where the idea came for this activity! A friend sent me a video on social media of someone decorating a pumpkin with flowers and I thought, “This is PERFECT - we have a garden built just for this.”

All you need for this activity is:

  • A pumpkin

  • Golf tees

  • A hammer (we tried a toy hammer and it worked but took a lot longer than a regular adult hammer)

  • Thin-stemmed flowers (we used zinnias and black-eyed susans from our garden, and a bouquet of mums from Trader Joes)

Just hammer the golf tees in around the pumpkin. My 5 year old loved this part. Then cut your flower stems short and slide them into the holes. We put our pumpkin right back on our front step to decorate! I could also see this being a really cool centerpiece for a table. The best part of this activity - ZERO MESS. So get outside, enjoy the cooler temps, and enjoy!

When in doubt, let’s go out.
